क्यानबेरा /  गत भदौ २3 र २४ गते नेपालमा भएको “जेन-जी आन्दोलन”   पुस्ताको   आन्दोनको  समर्थनका क्रममा सेप्टेम्बर ९ मा गैरआवासीय नेपाली संघ (एनआरएनए) अष्ट्रेलियाका अध्यक्ष सन्तोष कुँवरसहितको समूहले क्यानबेरास्थित नेपाली दूतावासमा ज्ञापनपत्र बुझाएको थियो। तर उक्त भेटका क्रममा घटेको विवादास्पद घटनाले समुदायभित्रै चर्को बहस र आलोचना उत्पन्न गरेको छ।

एनआरएए अष्ट्रेलिया र    दूतावासवीच  तत्कालीन प्रधानमन्त्री र   बर्तमान राष्ट्रपतिको तस्बिरलाई केवल सांकेतिक रूपमा टेबलमा राख्ने सहमति भएको  थियो । अध्यक्ष कुँवरले नेपाल आइजसँग कुरा गर्दै भने,
 “हाम्रो दूतावासमा गएर फोटो तोडफोड गर्ने कुनै नीति थिएन। तर केही आक्रोशितले सहमतिविपरीत फोटो फुटाएर फाले, जसमा एनआरएनए अष्ट्रेलियाको कुनै संलग्नता छैन, र संस्थाले त्यसको जिम्मा लिन सक्दैन।”

कानुनी बहस

भिडियो सार्वजनिक भएपछि  उक्त समुहले  तत्कालीन  प्रधानमन्त्री र बर्तमान राष्ट्रपितलाई धम्की दिएको देखिएपछि सामाजिक सञ्जालमा चर्को आलोचना भएको छ। धेरैले  अष्ट्रेलियामा बसी यहीको नागरिक भएर  यस्तो कार्यले गर्नुले  नेपालकै प्रतिष्ठामा धक्का पुर्याएको टिप्पणी गरेका छन्। इथान शाक्यले सामाजिक संजालमा लेखेका छन् ।
 “धन्न दूतावासले तुरुन्तै पुलिस बोलाएन, नत्र अहिले मुद्दामा धाइरहेका हुनेथिए।”

अस्ट्रेलियाली कानुनअनुसार, विदेशी दूतावासहरू “Protected Premises” मानिन्छन्। त्यहाँ तोडफोड वा हुलदङ्गा गर्नु गम्भीर अपराध हो, जसमा Crimes Act 1900 र Public Order (Protection of Persons and Property) Act 1971 अन्तर्गत जरिवानादेखि लामो जेल सजायसम्मको व्यवस्था छ।

समुदाय र संस्थाभित्र प्रश्न 

समाजिक संजालमा  केहीले लेखेका छन् ।  संलग्न व्यक्तिहरूमाथि तत्काल छानबिन गरी कानुनी कारबाही गर्न माग गरेका छन्।

हामीले एनआरएनए अष्ट्रेलियालाई  सोधेका थियौ‌ :  एनआरएनए अष्ट्रेलियाको  नेतृत्वमा फोटो तोडफोड र हुलदुङ्गा भएको छ भन्ने आरोप लागेको छ । तपाँइहरुको आधिकारीक धारणा केहो । जवाफमा अध्यक्ष कुँवरले यस्तो लेखेका छन् :

The Embassy of Nepal in Canberra acknowledges the recent visit by representatives of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia on September 9, 2025 to hand over our press release.

We truly appreciate embassy empathy and their  willingness to accommodate our request to remove the portrait of the then Honorable Prime Minister as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the grieving Australian-Nepali community and to honor the memory of 19 young students itself on 8th September 2025 (currently more than 50 people), whose tragic passing has deeply saddened us all.

After the portrait was respectfully taken down and placed on a table, a few individuals acted on their own impulse, going against what was agreed upon. Their decision to discard the portrait was unauthorized and disrespectful, and it does not reflect the respectful and constructive dialogue we aimed to uphold.

The NRNA Australia leadership has promptly communicated with the Embassy to clarify that these actions do not reflect our organization’s stance or the agreed-upon understanding of the visit.

The Embassy values its strong and positive long-term relationship with the NRNA and the broader Nepali community in Australia. We believe this isolated incident should not detract from the profound sense of loss that unites us all.

We now urge everyone to look forward and continue working together to honor the memory of those we have lost and to support the families affected by this immense tragedy.
