Sydney: A new community centre is taking shape at Peakhurst Park, with modular components now being transported to the site for assembly in what marks a first for the Georges River Council.

The project represents Council’s inaugural modular building construction initiative. The Modstruct Group was commissioned to manufacture the facility at its factory in Smeaton Grange before transporting it to Peakhurst Park for installation.

The centre comprises eight prefabricated modular units, which will be delivered individually and fitted together on-site. Construction is expected to be completed by April 2026, subject to weather conditions.

Once operational, the new facility will serve as a multi-purpose community hub, providing a shared space for local community organisations and stakeholder groups to meet, conduct programs and host activities. The centre will include a community hall, kitchen, bathrooms and office spaces.

Council has proposed the name “Peakhurst Park Community Centre” for the facility. Public consultation on the place naming concluded on 7 February.

The project has been made possible through a $1 million Federal Government grant secured by the Nepalese community, along with $100,000 in funding from the State Government. Georges River Council has also committed $1.3 million towards the development of the centre.

Georges River Mayor Elise Borg recently visited the Modstruct Group’s Smeaton Grange facility, accompanied by Council’s General Manager David Tuxford and members of the project team, to inspect the final stages of construction.

“This modular design, build and off-site construction is a milestone for our area — the first of its kind for Council — and it demonstrates how modern design can deliver real benefits to our residents,” Mayor Borg said.

“When the doors open, it will be a space that belongs to all of us, available for booking by anyone looking to run programs, meet, or connect.”
